Bbm9 Guitar Chord | Play, Hear and Practice Interactively
Bbm9 is Bb minor ninth: five notes, Bb, Db, F, Ab and C, stacked on the Bbm7 chord. Five voicings are listed, two of them barre shapes, and none uses an open string.
The ninth, C, sits a whole step above the root. The Db, F, Ab and C above it spell a Dbmaj7 chord. Other ninth voicings on guitar follow the same plan: a seventh chord plus one extra note. The Bb Dorian scale contains all five notes.
Hear Bbm9 strummed and picked as an arpeggio in the player at the top, and compare how the ninth rings.
Bb minor 9th guitar chord is also written as Bbm9, Bbmin9 or Bb-9.

What is the ninth in Bb minor ninth?
The ninth is C, two semitones up from Bb after adding an octave. It extends the Bbm7 chord without changing its minor character.
