Learning F# Dorian b2
F# Dorian b2 is a seven-note scale: F#, G, A, B, C#, D# and E. The half step from F# to G at the bottom is its signature, borrowed from the Phrygian sound.
The root appears on the 2nd fret of the low E string and the 9th fret of the A string. Because it shares notes with E melodic minor, you can reuse that scale's shapes. For the bigger picture of the family, visit the melodic minor scale.

How the dorian b2 scale is built:
The dorian b2 scale is built from the degrees 1 b2 b3 4 5 6 b7, which gives the step pattern H-W-W-W-W-H-W (W = whole step, H = half step).
Counting in semitones from the root: 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10. That makes it a 7-note scale.
It is mode 2 of the Melodic Minor Scale, so both scales share the same notes from a different starting point.
It is also known as Phrygian #6.
