G Dorian b2 for Guitar
G, Ab, Bb, C, D, E and F make up the G Dorian b2 scale. The Ab right above the root creates the tension, and the natural E keeps a Dorian brightness.
The open G string is a handy reference, with other roots on the 3rd fret of the low E string and the 10th fret of the A string. These are the notes of F melodic minor, so patterns you know for it fit once you start on G. To go further, try mixing major and minor modes.

How the dorian b2 scale is built:
The dorian b2 scale is built from the degrees 1 b2 b3 4 5 6 b7, which gives the step pattern H-W-W-W-W-H-W (W = whole step, H = half step).
Counting in semitones from the root: 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10. That makes it a 7-note scale.
It is mode 2 of the Melodic Minor Scale, so both scales share the same notes from a different starting point.
It is also known as Phrygian #6.
