F Ionian Augmented, Low on the Neck
F, G, A, Bb, C#, D and E make up the F Ionian #5 scale. The C# is the raised fifth, and it is the only note that departs from F major.
The root is on the 1st fret of the low E string, so the lowest box is right beside the nut. It comes from D harmonic minor, built on that scale's third note. Move the shape up four frets and you have A Ionian #5, since the fingering is identical in every key. To hear the scale in a musical setting, follow practising scales in context.

How the ionian #5 scale is built:
The ionian #5 scale is built from the degrees 1 2 3 4 #5 6 7, which gives the step pattern W-W-H-W+H-H-W-H (W = whole step, H = half step).
Counting in semitones from the root: 0, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11. That makes it a 7-note scale.
It is mode 3 of the Harmonic Minor Scale, so both scales share the same notes from a different starting point.
It is also known as Ionian Augmented.
