Ab Augmented: Hexatonic Shapes on Guitar
Ab, Cb, C, Eb, E and G make up the Ab augmented scale. Cb is a theoretical spelling of B, and the same six pitches also belong to the augmented scales on C and E.
Fret the root at the 4th fret of the low E string, or at the 11th fret of the A string. The step pattern alternates a minor third with a half step, so the hand keeps stretching and then closing.

Structure
Ab augmented scale notes:
How the augmented scale is built:
The augmented scale is built from the degrees 1 b3 3 5 #5 7, which gives the step pattern W+H-H-W+H-H-W+H-H (W = whole step, H = half step).
Counting in semitones from the root: 0, 3, 4, 7, 8, 11. That makes it a 6-note scale.
