E Augmented: Notes and Open Strings

Both open E strings can serve as the root of the E augmented scale, which runs E, G, G#, B, B# and D#. B# is the theoretical name for C, a spelling you meet on advanced charts.

The root repeats on the 7th fret of the A string. Those six pitches are identical to Ab and C augmented, so a pattern learned here can be reused from those starting points.

How the augmented scale is built:

The augmented scale is built from the degrees 1 b3 3 5 #5 7, which gives the step pattern W+H-H-W+H-H-W+H-H (W = whole step, H = half step).

Counting in semitones from the root: 0, 3, 4, 7, 8, 11. That makes it a 6-note scale.
