Eb Augmented Scale in Practice
Eb augmented is spelled Eb, Gb, G, Bb, B and D, a mix of flats and naturals with no double accidentals. It is made of two stacks of major thirds whose roots sit a minor third apart.
The root lies on the 11th fret of the low E string and the 6th fret of the A string. G and B augmented give the same pitches from other starting points. To judge where the tension belongs in a progression, see which scale suits each chord.

How the augmented scale is built:
The augmented scale is built from the degrees 1 b3 3 5 #5 7, which gives the step pattern W+H-H-W+H-H-W+H-H (W = whole step, H = half step).
Counting in semitones from the root: 0, 3, 4, 7, 8, 11. That makes it a 6-note scale.
