Reading from the root, Am(maj9) (A minor major ninth) gives A, C, E, G# and B: a minor third, a perfect fifth, a major seventh and a major ninth.

It grows out of Am(maj7) by one extra note, the B, which sits a whole step above the root. The G# is the leading tone, a half step below the root.
