The D Dorian #4 Scale for Guitar
D, E, F, G#, A, B and C are the notes of the D Dorian #4 scale. Everything is a white key except the G#, the raised fourth, so you can learn it by playing D Dorian and sharpening one note.
Let the open D string drone beneath the scale, and find the same root on the 10th fret of the low E string. These are the pitches of A harmonic minor, so a song in A minor with an E7 chord is a natural home. For smoother lines, practise with diagonal scale patterns.

Structure
D dorian #4 scale notes:
How the dorian #4 scale is built:
The dorian #4 scale is built from the degrees 1 2 b3 #4 5 6 b7, which gives the step pattern W-H-W+H-H-W-H-W (W = whole step, H = half step).
Counting in semitones from the root: 0, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10. That makes it a 7-note scale.
It is mode 4 of the Harmonic Minor Scale, so both scales share the same notes from a different starting point.
It is also known as Ukrainian Dorian and Romanian Minor.
